Is Skeet really #1?

April 22, 2010 1 comment

BassFan currently ranks Skeet Reese as #1, KVD as #2, and Brent Ehrler as #3 in the current BassFan World Rankings.  All three have had a turn in the #1 position in recent weeks.

According to our poll, most of you think the BassFan World Rankings are flawed.  Here are the results of our poll:

It seems the vast majority of you seem to think KVD is the best. Read more…

2010 AOY is Skeet’s to lose

Last week I pointed out that the 2010 Elite Series schedule favors bank beating and doesn’t set-up well for a KVD comeback.  This week Ken Duke (who is possibly the best bass fishing blogger on the net) points out that no-one has come back from fifth place after two tournaments and won AOY.  KVD currently sits in 42nd place.

The bottom line is that things are not looking good for KVD.  However, many of you may recall that in 2006 KVD was disqualified from an event and STILL made a strong push for AOY that year.  If anyone can beat the odds and make a miraculous comeback it is Kevin.

On the other end of the spectrum is Skeet Reese.  Ken points out that, “Reese’s 37-point lead is the second largest in Elite history after two tournaments”.  As bad as things look for KVD, they are looking good for Skeet.

Ken Duke’s posts are generally available to those with a Bass Insider membership.  His current post, “Two Down, Six To Go“, is available to the general public.  Check it out.

Will there be sight fishing at Smith Mountain Lake? Bo thinks so...

Smith Mountain Lake – What will the Smith Mountain Lake fish be doing next week when the Elite Series pros hit the lake?  Many experts are predicting that it will not be a sight fishing tournament like it was a year ago.   I will boldly go against the grain here and predict that there will be plenty of fish on the beds by the time the tournament starts.

What is my logic?  Last weekend I fished three different bodies of water here in North Central Alabama; a large reservoir, a medium lake, and a small pond.  All three places had more bass locked on beds than I have ever seen.   Even I could hook a few without spending much time coaxing them–and I am such a pitiful caster that I have to cast twenty times before I can get a plastic near a bed.   Shaw Grigsby, Kelly Jordon, and company would have had a field day catching all these fish.  Read more…

Vote! Who is the best angler?

March 23, 2010 Leave a comment

To my knowledge, BassFan is the only organization that ranks anglers from the FLW and BASS in the same ranking.  In the BassFan World Rankings, KVD was ranked a solid #1 for a long time. That changed recently when Brent Ehrler took the #1 spot last week. Shortly thereafter Skeet Reese leapfrogged Brent and took the top spot after a strong finish at Clear Lake.

Kevin VanDam is currently ranked #3 in the BassFan World Rankings.

I recently wrote that the BassFan World Ranking formula should be tweaked.   ( BassFan has updated their rankings since I wrote that post, but the principle is the same ).

What do you think?  Vote in our poll…

The BCS meets Bass Fishing–the latest BassFan World Rankings are here

Kevin VanDam is the reigning BASS Angler of the Year, the reigning Bassmaster Classic Champion, and is quite probably the best angler the sport has ever seen.   Yet in the current BassFan World Rankings, KVD’s recent accomplishments rank him second place behind Brent Ehrler.

Yes you read that first paragraph correctly.  They have KVD listed as second.  KVD is the best that has ever been and he is currently playing at his peak level.  How can he only be ranked second? Read more…
