Top 10 Podcasts–Why am I just now catching on?

April 29, 2010 10 comments

I had to watch a TV without a DVR the other day and it was an extremely painful experience.  The DVR has become such an essential part of the TV viewing experience—it really makes me wonder how we were able to function as a society without them.  Fast forwarding through commercials,  pausing when the phone rings, when the wife talks about what she found on sale, or when the kids’ light saber battle ends up in front of the TV.  How did I survive before I had DVR? Meet Alabama Rookie Keith Poche

As I am sure many of our readers have noticed, the Armchair Anglers are biased towards Alabama.  This was not the original plan when we started this blog and podcast—it just kind of evolved that way.

While visiting our podcast, our friend Kent Brown from Ultimate Bass Radio took a few good natured jabs at our beloved state and the fishermen in it.  After that I thought hey, there is nothing wrong with showing a little pride in the hometown heroes.

With that in mind I have to say that it would make me extremely happy to see an Alabama angler win these tournaments in California AGAIN.  Import Alabamian Aaron Martens could easily win the Duel in the Delta…AGAIN.  Or Native Alabamian Steve Kennedy could win the Golden State Shootout. AGAIN.

What would be even more cool is to see the ultimate underdog from Alabama win.  With that in mind I would like to introduce you to the Keith Poche.  Keith is the only rookie that calls Alabama home competing on the Elite Series this year. Read more…

The Armchair Anglers Podcast dissed on another show!

February 1, 2010 3 comments

No PR stunt here.  A podcast called “I Just Had a Terrible Thought” picked up our promo and proceeded to rip us on air.  You can listen to their episode here.  Be forewarned…their show is explicit.  I would compare it to Howard Stern.

The question is what, if anything, should we do about this?  Vote in our poll below.  And by the way…the tunes on our show are original Clint –including but not limited to his band Five Pound Test.

EPISODE ONE, PART ONE

EPISODE ONE, PART TWO

Our listeners get two for the price of one in the The December 2009 Episode as we are releasing it in two parts.  This month’s guests are Kent Brown from Ultimate Bass Radio and Referee Mark Randolph from the hit TV show Ultimate Match Fishing.  In Part One the panel discusses bass fishing around the country.  Things then turn ugly when we discuss frog fishing.  Part Two features a candid interview with Mark Randolph as well as our usual show features including “backlash” and “last cast” segments.  We once again thank Kent and Mark for joining us on the show.

Famous guest loses cool on show–hangs up

December 8, 2009 1 comment

There has been a delay in the release of the December 2009 podcast episode.  While  recording a segment on “frog fishing”, we were joined by a special guest who is perhaps the best known authority on frogs.  While recording this segment of the show this guest became very frustrated, irate, and somewhat hostile.  As Hosts of the show this took us by surprise as this guest has a reputation for being friendly and is frequently shown to have an easy to get along with disposition on his many TV appearances.  When guest Kent Brown tried to change the subject to jig fishing the guest in question became even more unnerved and ultimately disconnected from the conference call–but not before mentioning that he would be speaking with his lawyer.  For this reason we are not comfortable printing the guest’s name at this time.

After much deliberation The Armchair Anglers have decided to edit out the offensive parts of the tirade, and otherwise publish the segment in question as planned.  Our goal at The Armchair Anglers is to have honest discussions about current fishing topics.  We make every effort to present these issues in a fair and balanced way–but will not back down from objectively discussing these issues.  In short, we will not let this show turn in to the fisherman’s version of the Jerry Springer show nor will we let it become an infomercial that is scared to discuss  real news and current events.   We are seeking the appropriate balance that our listener’s deserve.

Due to the extra editing required, the release of the show has been delayed by a few days.  Please check back soon to listen to the newest episode.

Sincerely,

Bo Crawford and Clint Jacobs

Kent Brown takes a plunge!

While doing research for the soon to be released December 09 episode, I came across this YouTube video of possibly the worst net attempt in history.  Kent is a good sport for sharing.
