Several Alabamians are competing in the FLW Tour tournament on Table Rock Lake that started today.  Cullman’s Greg Pugh caught an 18-11 bag and currently sits in first place.  Now that the FLW Tour has changed to a cumulative weight format, catching a big sack on the first day is not the tactical mistake it once was.

For those of us who like to pull for underdogs, there are two Alabama rookies who competed in their first FLW Tour event today.

Rookie Mark Stewart of Springville, AL caught 10-06 and is sitting in 20th place.

Things could have gone better for Kathryn “Kat” Ealey from Moody, AL.  Kat blanked today and is still waiting to catch her first FLW Tour tournament bass.  The conditions were flat-out tough on Table Rock Lake today.   Kat said, “It was tough alright–I even had a tough practice”.

There is no shame in blanking today as some of the biggest sticks in the industry are tied with Kat.  Edwin Evers,

Kathryn "Kat" Ealey still has a chance if she can catch them tomorrow.

Michael Bennett, Guido Hibdon, Dan Morehead, and many other “A-List” names matched Kat’s results.

With the tough conditions and the new cumulative weight format,  there is plenty of time for competitors to make up ground.  An optimistic Kat said, “If I can come in with some fish tomorrow I think I have a good chance”.

Considering the fact that the MAJORITY of the field has caught two fish or less, there is still plenty of time for a young rookie to make a good showing.  This tournament is still wide open.

Kat is sponsored by Town and Country Ford in Bessemer, AL and Crutchfield and Graves Insurance in Hoover, AL.
