Great Fishing Weather!

Tomorrow is the first day of practice for the Classic competitors.

  • Water temp=Cold
  • Water Quality=Muddy
  • Current = Strong
  • Air Temp = Even Colder.

Here is what Alabama Power says about the current:

Turbine Release
33675 cfs

Lake Conditions Message
Effective – 2/5/2010

Take Note: Due to locally heavy rainfall, spillway gates are open at Lay. Lake elevations are always subject to change, depending on conditions

NOTE: On Lay Lake 33,675 cubic feet per second is a TON of current.

In case you didn’t know this, we freak over snow in Central Alabama.  The Yankees laugh and say, “look how they scurry and get worried over a few inches of snow.”  You have to remember that we are not equipped to deal with snow.  We have no snow plows.  No salt.  Just bourbon.

Here is what the National Weather Service says about Childersburg, AL (on Lay Lake):

Issued by The National Weather Service
Birmingham, AL
1:51 pm CST, Thu., Feb. 11, 2010

… WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 PM CST FRIDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BIRMINGHAM HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW… WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 PM CST FRIDAY.

THE ATMOSPHERE ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA WILL BE CONDUCIVE TO A DOMINANT PRECIPITATION TYPE OF SNOW. SNOW WILL BEGIN FALLING AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT ACROSS FAR WESTERN AREAS NEAR TUSCALOOSA. THE SNOW WILL QUICKLY SPREAD EASTWARD FRIDAY MORNING… AND IS EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF FROM WEST TO EAST LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON. AT THIS TIME… IT APPEARS THAT SNOW ACCUMULATION OF TWO TO FOUR INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE IN AND NEAR THE WARNED AREA.

AREAS WEST OF INTERSTATE 65 WILL LIKELY EXPERIENCE THE HEAVIEST ACCUMULATING SNOW BETWEEN 7 AND 11 AM WHILE AREAS EAST OF INTERSTATE 65 WILL GET THE HEAVIEST SNOW A BIT LATER BETWEEN 10 AM AND 2 PM.

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL… KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT… FOOD… AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

I like it!  This Classic is going to be won by an angler who can adapt to changing conditions.

Thats a true classic! My favorite classic was the three rivers in pittsburgh. I love low weight scrape to get bit events.
