Great Concept! The American Bass Anglers 150 Series

December 29, 2009 Leave a comment

I saw the American Bass Anglers 150 Series trail mentioned in Bassmaster Magazine. The concept is a trail that has a reasonable horsepower limit.   As an aluminum boat fan I hope this concept takes off–there are too many weekend fishermen out there who have more money invested in their boats than their houses!

A Favorite Missing From ESPN2’s 2010 Fishing Slate.

December 24, 2009 Leave a comment

ESPN2 Outdoors announced their 2010 fishing programming (read the full press release on Wired2Fish) and one of Bo’s favorites was noticeably absent.  It appears we have seen our last new episode of Day on the Lake.  We have submitted inquiries to confirm the show wasn’t picked up in 2010 and will post an update as soon as we hear from them.

Ironically, we were just discussing Day on the Lake on the last podcast as the show ranked 6th on Bo’s list of Top 10 TV Shows.   There is no shortage of fishing shows that illustrate how to catch fish at premiere locations when conditions are perfect.  Day on the Lake joins Angler on Tour as one of the few shows that illustrate how the Pros deal with the same real life struggles on the water that all of us average fishermen have to deal with.   And it appears Day on the Lake joins Angler on Tour as a show that is no longer being aired.

December 2009 Episode Now Available!

Our listeners get two for the price of one in the The December 2009 Episode as we are releasing it in two parts.  This month’s guests are Kent Brown from Ultimate Bass Radio and Referee Mark Randolph from the hit TV show Ultimate Match Fishing.  In Part One the panel discusses bass fishing around the country.  Things then turn ugly when we discuss frog fishing.  Part Two features a candid interview with Mark Randolph as well as our usual show features including “backlash” and “last cast” segments.  We once again thank Kent and Mark for joining us on the show.

Famous guest loses cool on show–hangs up

December 8, 2009 1 comment

There has been a delay in the release of the December 2009 podcast episode.  While  recording a segment on “frog fishing”, we were joined by a special guest who is perhaps the best known authority on frogs.  While recording this segment of the show this guest became very frustrated, irate, and somewhat hostile.  As Hosts of the show this took us by surprise as this guest has a reputation for being friendly and is frequently shown to have an easy to get along with disposition on his many TV appearances.  When guest Kent Brown tried to change the subject to jig fishing the guest in question became even more unnerved and ultimately disconnected from the conference call–but not before mentioning that he would be speaking with his lawyer.  For this reason we are not comfortable printing the guest’s name at this time.

After much deliberation The Armchair Anglers have decided to edit out the offensive parts of the tirade, and otherwise publish the segment in question as planned.  Our goal at The Armchair Anglers is to have honest discussions about current fishing topics.  We make every effort to present these issues in a fair and balanced way–but will not back down from objectively discussing these issues.  In short, we will not let this show turn in to the fisherman’s version of the Jerry Springer show nor will we let it become an infomercial that is scared to discuss  real news and current events.   We are seeking the appropriate balance that our listener’s deserve.

Due to the extra editing required, the release of the show has been delayed by a few days.  Please check back soon to listen to the newest episode.

Kent Brown takes a plunge!

While doing research for the soon to be released December 09 episode, I came across this YouTube video of possibly the worst net attempt in history.  Kent is a good sport for sharing.
